Tips About Fungal Nails
To Keep Your Feet Healthy
Toenail fungus is not just a cosmetic problem. It is caused by fungal germs that invade the nail plate and can infect the root of the toenail called the toenail matrix. The toenail fungal infection is always preceded by athletes feet, known as Tinea Pedis.
There are three main ways of treating this unsightly condition: topical medication, oral medication and, now, laser. Topical medications by prescription are the first line of treatment. Combined with regular cutting of damaged toenail plate, a regimen of topical medication can be effective. Oral medication is a stronger approach. Usually, blood work is ordered before patients are started on oral medication to monitor liver function since the liver maybe impacted by a course of this medication. Laser anti fungal toenail treatment is a new treatment modality that is approved by the FDA. It, combined with topical and possibly a lower amount of oral medication, has shown great promise in helping patients get rid of this problem and grow healthier, clear toenails.
